The Centre for Memory, Peace and Reconciliation in Bogota is a space for the vindication of the victims of violence in Colombia. The Center currently gathers different actors from the political, social and violent history of Colombia in different activities such as workshops, concerts, forums and conferences.
For the first time, an exhibition is located at the entrance of the Centre, in the realm of the public. The graphic work shows a cartographic approach to the territory surrounding the Centre, relating other memory places of the city with the Centre and its views. “The Memory Axe” is a fictional but metaphorical inscription of these series of places into one same route. Among the spaces that are portrayed in the exhibition are the National University, site of political and historical relevance, the Central Cemetery, the Hebrew, the German and the British Cemeteries; all of them patrimony of the city and the Columbaries, former cemetery for the working class people of Bogota in the 20th century.
*Project developed for the Centro de Memoria, Paz y Reconciliación, with the collaboration of the team at the CMPR.
